A production process designed to guarantee consistent quality

Every season starts
long before the sale.

Our production follows a precise, planned cycle that begins months before delivery. We do not grow for stock: every plant that leaves our greenhouse in Terracina is the result of careful planning, starting with the selection of cuttings and ending with quality control before shipping.

Ten months of skilled handwork, stage by stage, personally overseen by our team. It is this slow, manual, careful approach that gives our customers a uniform, healthy product that is ready for sale.

01

Before the season

Plant selection

It all starts before we even enter the greenhouse. At the end of each season we assess how every variety performed (flowering quality, response to handling, market demand) and decide what to grow the following season. Our Bougainvillea mother plants are selected and kept in the greenhouse over winter to ensure high-quality cuttings. For the other species, we choose our cutting suppliers with the same care we put into the rest of our work.

02

January

Propagation

In January the production cycle begins in earnest. For Bougainvillea we propagate in-house: we take cuttings from our own mother plants and stick them in Jiffy plugs in a controlled environment. For Dipladenia, Lantana and the other species we work with selected cuttings from certified suppliers. Every cutting is treated and rooted under optimal temperature and humidity: this is the foundation that determines the quality of the finished product.

03

June

Potting

Once the cuttings have rooted sufficiently, we move on to potting. The young plants are transferred by hand into their final pots (14 to 30 cm depending on the type) with a selected growing medium and base fertiliser. It is a delicate stage: each plant is placed individually, checked and set down in the greenhouses. From this moment, real growth begins.

04

September – February

Growing in the greenhouse

Over the following months the plants grow in the greenhouse under constant monitoring. Temperature, irrigation and feeding are adjusted to each species and growth stage. This is the longest phase of the production cycle, and the most decisive for final quality. Availability is updated during this phase, as the numbers become clear.

05

Alongside growth

Manual work

As the plants grow, the manual work that defines our production begins. Pinching, tying to canes, training Dipladenia into standards: these are operations that require time, precision and a trained eye. No machine does them better than an expert hand. It is this work, invisible to the end customer, that makes the difference between any plant and a MEJ Plants plant.

06

Before sale

Quality control

Before an order is prepared, every batch is checked. We verify shape, plant health, uniformity of flowering and that everything matches the customer’s booking. Plants that do not meet the standard are excluded. We never ship anything we would not buy ourselves.

07

May

Order preparation

From mid-February to the end of May, orders are prepared and shipped according to the agreed delivery weeks. Each shipment is organised according to the destination country and carrier: for France and the Netherlands logistics are handled directly by our agents, while for other markets we coordinate directly with the customer. Every order leaves our greenhouse checked, counted and ready for sale.
